my first day of work in buriram thailand.
what am i doing?
eating deep fried bananas, watching narnia (the pirated version) and playing on the computer.
life is hard.
thailand is really great.
im "forced" to eat tons of delicious vegan food all the time.
the people i live with tell me that it is there goal for me to gain 7 kilos (about 15 lbs) before i leave.
i'm almost there.
there have been continual attempts by the old people in my village to set me up with thai boys.
one of them looked like a thai david bowie.
drooool
little do they know how much im swooning over my host sister.
double drool.
probably don't have much time before the computer crashes again.

i guess i will soon find out if my thai speaking abilities are adequate enough to survive being engulfed by it.
i'm slightly worried, but not as much as i probably should be.

oh man, i work with the coolest people ever. im working at an old folks home where i work with the elder residents, alzheimers patients, and those mentally differently abled. it's extremely exhausting both mentally and physically, but well worth it. ill introduce you to some of my favourites.
there is ROSE who only ever says "YEAH!!!" really enthusiastically to everything you say.
GRAYDON, who if you ask, is always "peaches and Cream" and talks in song and chant.
MICKEY who all day, everyday, takes pieces of garbage and cuts it then collects them in pails an keeps them in his room.
MARK who is the chattyest person ever, but cannot speak. he uses this typewritter thing that speaks for him, and its ALWAYS talking.
SUE-ANNE, also known as SUZY-Q who carries around a bucket full of toys and candy, and who cries if she doesnt have it.
And my all time favourite, BABS! i think every single person in the manor hates Babs, but i love her. she was taken to the manor by her family who dropped her off and never returned. She lives in a completely different reality where she is living with her husband jack and you can never say "see you tommorow" because she goes into hysterics about her vacation being over and her having to go back to her worried mother in england TONIGHT. yesterday i spent around an hour with babs wheeling her around the manor in search of Jack, who she couldn't find and was extremely worried about. She also went into hysterics because she didnt know where her coat was. babs usually lives in this altered reality, but the last few times (other than yesterday) she has started to remember who i am and have realistic conversations with me. she even asked me for a hug one time because she was so happy to see i came back. i make sure i go and see her everyday.
there is also about a hundered other people at the manor, all with their exciting quirks, but these are the ones i have been working the closest with.
other than work, Renfrew is okay. Im still really unsatisfied with the CWY program, but im making the best of what i have. i've just sort of ditched the program as much possible and spend lots of time listening to awsome music, reading, sketching, and i've also started writing a zine. so it aint all that bad.
Side note: The CUT LOOSE tape is AWSOME!!!
in other news, it is a toumor. but good news! they seem to have caught it early enough that it will only be a simple surgery! no chemo or anything!!!
so, i think i've covered everthing for the time being.

i leave in eight hours. i guess its kind of starting to hit me, and im starting to wonder what the hell im doing. i have so many good things going for me here right now, i feel torn leaving them. but i have many experiences ahead that i really am looking forward to. i'll post my address in renfrew once i get there and find a computer. i'd love to get mail from all of you. it will make small town, population Samosa, more enjoyable.
well, i guess i should go to bed. i will miss you, i promise. well, some of you. take care. have a good winter!

p.s. i ran into a friend of mine who was born in thailand, and i asked him about the province that i am going to, and apparently in Buriram they dont speak thai, they speak Cambodian! i have been learning the wrong language!!! i dont know a single thing in cambodian!!! ahhhhh!

I am in Vancouver having a SUPER awsome time.
i think i might want to move here some time in my life.
the rides out where pretty good. we made it here in about 2 and a half days. We got driven from Brandon to Calgary by the sketchiest person either Ari or I had ever met! he was a truck driver who drove for the mafia!!! i have lots of interesting stories to share about him, including when he made me drive, which sounds better when i tell them rather than write them. we are staying at the ALF house, where everyone has been super rad and fun to be around. their is an abundance of free food here, including awsome dumpsters and temples serving delicous food. there is always things to do here too. theres tons of shows and just different activities always going on. there is also tons of fleas here, or at least at the house. but the awsome news is, i seem to be one of the only people who does not get affected by them!! its terrific.
one of the guys who lives here has leant me his room while hes gone. so i have this awsome room with the most comfortable king size bed. i've never slept this good!
the only downs at the current time is my bronchitus that hasnt seemed to have dissapeared dispite the fact that ive finnished taking my antibiotics. i keep caughing so hard that i throw up, so its killing my throat, chest, lungs, and now my stomach. i guess i should go to a clinic here or something, but im fucking sick of doctors and their false, fucking expensive, medication. the other down is that i just heard news that my bike got stolen from the spence house :( i'm so choked up about that. i love my bike! what am i supposed to do when i get back?! my mom gave me that bike as a gift, so she phoned me out here to yell at me about it, and now she wants me to pay her back for the bike that got stollen as well as the bike that i have to buy as a replacement now. i dont have any fucking money, so maybe its better if i just dont come back.
whine whine whine!!!!!
anyway, its beautiful here, and i dont want to come back, but i will be back in about a week or so. we should hang out when i get back!

with all this mono action i forgot to mention that my grad dress is complete! it is absoloutly PERFECT! it couldn't be any better, i love it so much! Tamara made it and did the most amazing job ive ever seen. i dont think i have ever seen a dress i like more anywhere! i wish that i had talent like that!

my body appears to hate me at the moment. i just found out that i have mono which comes along with a fun temperature of 103*F which creates a truely wonderful pounding-and-feeling-like-it's-going-to-burst experience in my head. i have also had the enjoyable feelings of pain when i breath, nausea, vomiting, and inability to open my eyes. truely fun times

well, i'm back from minneapollis. had a pretty awsome time
here are my top 10 ups:
10. not getting checked for id/passports/anything in coming both
into the US and out of it.
9. 8 hours of roller coasters. actually, only the first four
were ups.
8. Eating really delicous Thi food with Sam, Ellen, Robert and
Fabian.
7. Hook
6. when someone dropped a camera lens at Washburn high school and
the students all ducked and ran because they thought it was a
bomb.
5. doggy paddle, no legs races in the pool.
4. Finding a really awsome Gorilla Biscuits shirt
3. Viewing art by Andy Warhol, Mary Ellen Mark, Dorothea Lange,
picaso, van gogh, monet, chuck Close, etc.
2. singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" with Sam during Kareokee
night at the hotel bar.
